Built from a shared service, as a shared service, the U.S. Department of the Treasury’s Budget Formulation and Execution Manager (BFEM.gov) supports the strategic planning, formulation, and performance management of the federal budget. Initially designed as a tool for the Treasury to collect information from its various departments and sub-agencies, the application has been adopted by 15 other federal agencies to support the collection, submission, and management of their budget data.
The infographic below shows how BFEM has streamlined the budget submission process for participating agencies, and how it has helped them better manage taxpayer dollars. These agencies have saved a combined $80 million using BFEM, and expect to save much more as adoption and the use of shared services in the Federal Government becomes commonplace.
